A Ruby Rock-It "Mother Nature" Layout

One of the themes at Ruby Rock-It this month is birthdays, so I've made this layout of my daughter on her big day wearing her gorgeous new birthday dress! As you will probably notice, she adored her dress :)

I found the declicate patterns and colors of the Mother Nature line to be a lovely match for these photos. Isn't that background paper pretty? I didn't want to cover too much of it up, so I focused my paper layering on the center of the page.

I pulled from a variety of embellishment packages to dress up my layout. This cluster contains some flowers from a decoupage pack, bits of purple and clear bling, a butterfly sticker adorned with pretty stick-on pearl, and some punched white leaves.

The cluster in the upper right corner of the layout contains part of a decoupage pack flower, a couple of tag diecuts, a beautiful bling butterfly, and punched leaves.

Here I've tucked a threaded chipboard button slightly under the photos and onto another clear bling flourish.

I can never seem to get a good true color photograph of brown stickers- these look much nicer in person!

I used Bo Bunny's beautiful Isabella collection... definitely my favorite Bo Bunny release in quite some time... the gorgeous pinks and the butterflies probably had something to do with that :)

Here's the March sketch:

A Ruby Rock It "Carnival Queen" Layout

I have a layout on the Ruby Rock-It blog today featuring the brand new Carnival Queen collection! This is a photo of Allison and her daddy sliding down a tunnel slide at a playground. I really love capturing moments like this.

Something I love about Carnival Queen, aside from the really pretty colors in it, is that it can be used for so much more than just carnival or circus themed projects. It's an overall fun collection that is well-suited for a variety of fun themes.

For my main embellishment cluster, I've layered one of the awesome pockets with an accordion flower sticker, a fun clipboard journaling sticker, and a couple diecuts.

Isn't the party pick here cute? :)

A Ruby Rock-It Birthday Layout

My little girl turned 3 last week... here she is with her cake, candles and piggy tails with lots of beautiful Ruby Rock-It Cook collection goodies!

I included two embellishment clusters, each consisting of an odd number of items (7 in the left and 3 in the right), a design principle that I strive to stick to in everything I create. I positioned the "May all your dreams come true" sentiment diecut beneath the photo and between the embellishment clusters as a way to help all the pieces flow together.

Tucking some embellishments partially beneath the photo and some above it, and layering embellishments with foam squares, are just a couple of simple ways to build dimension on the layout without causing too much bulk.

The beautiful pink doily-like Cook diecut glitter cardstock comes with a solid pink edge around it, about 1/4-inch wide. While it's pretty, I decided that for this layout I wanted to remove that pink edge, so I used my precision scissors to cut it off. This left white edges around the "doily" which I lightly inked with brown ink.

I finished the layout off by adding some faux pearl detailing around the edge of the "doily" with my pearl pen.
