Today - Scrap Around the World

I was so inspired by this month's mood board at Scrap Around the World that I had to take a much needed break from all of the end of the school year paperwork chaos for work and make time to play along with the challenge.

It felt really good to participate!  If you are like me and don't have much time to join challenges, I highly recommend that you make time somehow and play along with this epic event at Scrap Around the World.  I bet you'll feel good, like I did, making a page for yourself and having fun doing so.  If that isn't enough, have you seen the massive assortment of prizes up for grabs?!  I'd say that Scrap Around the World certainly knows how to celebrate their birthday!

To create the background, I first covered the white cardstock with a coat of clear gesso.  I then used drops of various colors of mists... pinks, teals, black, and white... with drops of water to create a watercolor effect.  I really enjoy this fun process!

When dry, I used a script stamp with some black distress ink to randomly lightly stamp around the page.  Then I used the same distress ink here and there with a triangle stencil.  I layered some super heavy gesso through another stencil to add texture.

When all was dry, I pulled out the My Creative Scrapbook January Limited Edition kit, which features the Tropical Punch collection from Kaisercraft, and a few additional goodies from my stash (that doily was courtesy of our local breakfast restaurant... they use those on the plates that they serve pancake syrup on! Too pretty for syrup if you ask me, which is why it ended up coming home with me and landed on this page LOL).

Several things about the Scrap Around the World mood board inspired me... the pretty pinks and hints of blue and green, the beautiful basket of flowers and the fallen petals, the sprinkles on the martini glass, and the texture on the icecream cone.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Darling - My Creative Scrapbook May Main Kit

It was so fun to design with Maggie Holmes' Crate Paper Confetti collection featured in My Creative Scrapbook's May Main Kit.  Today I'm sharing my third layout created with this beautiful kit.

I treated the white cardstock with clear gesso and then spread some pink mist around with a waterbrush.  When that layer was dry, I added other shades of pink mists as well as blues and gold (mists, all from my stash, are by Lindy's Stamp Gang and Heidi Swapp).

When the mists were dry, I used some black distress ink with a stencil and then did some random stamping.

Don't you love these beautiful script words from the kit?

There are so many beautiful embellishments in this kit. There's even a roll of pink/white washi tape.

Thanks so much for visiting today :)

Celebrate Everyday - My Creative Scrapbook May Main Kit

I have another My Creative Scrapbook May Main Kit layout to share today.

I have always loved working with Maggie Holmes' Crate Paper collections, so I was super happy when I learned that this month's kit was featuring her Confetti collection.  I pulled some of the pretty blues, golds, and browns to complement this photo of my daughter.  I love the subtle touch of pink :)

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm on a white background kick lately!  It's such a fun creative outlet to start with a blank slate and use colorful mists and inks to customize things.

I started with various shades of blue Lindy's Stamp Gang mists.  When those were dry, I added some drops of yellow mist.  I topped things off with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold.  I added some very subtle stenciling here and there with black distress ink.

Thanks so much for visiting today :)
I will have a couple more Main Kit projects to share in the next few days.

Adorable - My Creative Scrapbook May Main Kit

Hi, Blog Friends!

It's reveal day at My Creative Scrapbook kit club!

I had lots of fun working with the Main Kit this month, which features the gorgeous Crate Paper Confetti collection designed by Maggie Holmes.  The papers, ephemera pieces, and stickers are filled with gold accents and are just so pretty!

This is one of the layouts that I created with the kit.  I went with a white base on each of my projects this month... something that I rarely dabbled with until the past year or so.  In the past, I was all about layering patterned paper on top of patterned paper on top of patterned paper, and I hardly ever had any white showing.  But I gotta say, there's something about a crisp and clean white background that translates into free expression!  I really love the freedom to start with a "clean slate" and then customize the background to suit the photo.  I'm finding that my photos are much better at taking center stage when I have a white or relatively light background.

I've learned so much about background design from Christin Grønnslett.  One of the best tips that I've learned from her is prepping the white cardstock with clear gesso.  Then I started dropping mists... first some pink Color Shine from Heidi Swapp, which I spread out with a waterbrush to create a watercolor effect.  Once dry, I added drops of different shades of pink Lindy's Stamp Gang mists.  When that layer was dry, I dropped some blue Lindy's mist and some gold Heidi Swapp color shine.  I finished with some tiny splats of black mist.

With the background completed, I layered on some of the gorgeous Crate Paper Confetti goodies from the kit.

The kit includes several beautiful script words and phrases that make perfect titles!

I have a few more Main Kit projects to share in the next few days.
